This answer varies and depends on the severity of the challenges you are facing. Typically, clients see the most success when they meet with me either weekly or bi-weekly. If symptoms are mild, therapy can last 8-12 weeks. Clients who have more complex issues or those who are looking to do deeper work attend for a longer period of time.
The initial appointment is called a Diagnostic Interview, as it is not a normal therapy session. I will ask you questions about the problems you are experiencing and we will get to know each other to determine if we are a good fit (which is so important). I will offer treatment recommendations, and if you decide you'd like to start therapy, we will get your future appointments scheduled.
The interventions I use will depend on your treatment needs. My work is grounded in trauma-informed care, with training in EMDR, attachment-based therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Rather than focusing on surface-level coping skills alone, we'll work to get to the root so you can experience lasting change.
I have a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan in Psychology and Women's Studies and a Master's Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Mental Health Counseling. Following my graduation, I completed 3,000 hours of supervised practice before becoming licensed as a Professional Counselor in Alabama (AL #3117). I've been working with clients for over 18 years and absolutely love what I do! I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
